In addition to the type of necklaces that you prefer to wear, you should also look for the right fit in the form of its length to look stylish and cool.

A necklace is a piece of fundamental jewellery in anyone’s wardrobe. It’s mostly worn by women, but there are also several options for men. Although it's a jewellery accessory, its implications go even deeper than that. A finishing touch to any outfit, it remains at the forefront of the eyes and works as an attention magnet. The focal point of your look, you must get the choice of your necklace right to look good in your outfit.

Getting the choice right isn’t as easy as it sounds when it comes to this particular accessory. It needs to work with the overall outfit, while also fitting perfectly on your neck. The decision should also be made with a little consideration to the wearer’s physical shape and personality.

To that point, today, we discuss the ways you can choose a length of your necklaces that not only fits you perfectly but also emphasizes your best features.

Understanding the Standard Lengths

Jewellers measure the necklace lengths in inches, which are mostly even numbers. It’s possible to cut the chains in any length, however, while the customised pieces have their complete liberty.

Anyhow, the standard options usually offered in women’s collections range from 14 inches to 42 inches. The shortest one is known as a collar, the next is choker and princess at 16 and 18 inches. The matinee can be somewhere between 20 to 24 inches, while the opera goes from 28 to 36 inches. The rope designs are given a length somewhere between 36 to 42 inches.

The men’s collection, on the other hand, comes with slightly fewer options. The length of men’s neckpieces usually ranges between 18 inches to 24 inches.

Perfect Necklace for the Perfect Outfit

As the collar necklaces fit tightly around the neck, it goes best with open-neck clothing like v-necks, off-the-shoulders, scoop and boat necks, etc. The chokers are pretty similar too, which can help to emphasize your beautiful neck. It is also as versatile as the princess, which can be worn with almost anything.

For a casual business look, the best necklace is the matinee. While the opera couldn’t be any clearer for its purpose. The elaborate rope neck chains, however, are best suited for an elegant evening, an award function, or something similarly grand.

The Shape Of Your Neck Matters Too

As you would be wearing the necklaces on your neck, some may argue that the length and the shape of your neck are more important for the perfect fit than anything else. While it’s always best to try out, usually, long necks can wear just about anything. The short necks, however, should avoid the chokers and anything wide pallets. The necks with some wrinkles should avoid anything shorter than 20 inches for comfortability.
