Which Smartwatch Should You Buy?

Today's question is which smartwatch should you buy? In this post, I'm going to be comparing the latest smartwatch offerings from Apple and Fitbit and hopefully give you an idea of which is best for you personally to get.

Fitbit Versa 2

I am going to start first with the Fitbit Versa 2 which is Fitbit's latest offering. The features which are on the Fitbit Versa 2 are as follows:

  •  Amazon Alexa built-in so you can set timers & alarms, check the weather, control your other smart home devices and so much more.
  • Music experience. You can control your Spotify app plus you can store and play 300+ songs from your wrist. You can connect through Bluetooth to connect your wireless headphones too.
  • Smartphone notifications. This is only available while your phone is nearby.
  • On-screen workouts. They will play on your wrist and coach you through each move.
  • Real-time pace and distance. Connect your phones GPS to see your pace and distance on display when you go for runs, plus you get a map of your route.
  •  Automatically record select exercises like swimming, running, aerobic workouts and more.
  • Sleep tracking including the REM sleep stages. Your sleep score is also available to better understand your sleep quality.
  • Customisable clock faces with a variety of designs available.
  • Lightweight design made with an aluminium case, comfortable enough to wear all day and night.
  • Fitbit Pay. Connect your cards and pay using your wrist.
  • All-day activity which measures steps, heart rate, distance, calories burned, floors climbed, active minutes, hourly activity and stationary time.
  • The Fitbit Versa 2 also tracks your period and compares your cycle against your other activity.
  • Cardio fitness level. You can get a better understanding of your fitness level and you can see how you can improve over time.
  • Water-resistant and tracks your swims. Fitbits are some of the Best swimming watches around at the moment. 
With many more features including changeable accessory bands, guided breathing sessions, personalised reminders, 15+ exercise modes, 6+ day battery life and various apps available, this could be the choice for you.

Apple Watch 5

 Next up we have the Apple Watch Series 5 which is the latest incarnation of smartwatches from Apple. So what features does the Apple Watch 5 have?

  • Always-on retina display which means you will always see the time and your watch face.
  • It can be customised any way you like. With various straps available you can make it as personal to you as possible.
  • Various materials. The Apple Watch 5 can come in Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Titanium or Ceramic. It's up to you which you choose.
  • New noise level app alerts when decibels rise to high levels.
  • Cycle tracking app for anyone who has their period.
  • There are workouts for any way you exercise along with advanced metrics for every level of athlete.
  • Activity ring which tracks your progress and inspires you to exercise more or even compete in challenges with your friends.
  • You can stream music, audiobooks and even podcasts.
  • A compass feature that also shows elevation.
  • The app store is now on the watch so you can get various apps directly through it.
  •  You can go without your phone as the watch has cellular connectivity.
  • Apple pay can also be activated which means you can pay for things on the go. 
  • Siri capabilities.
  • And the most important aspect is that it tells the time! You can personalise your watch face with over 100 designs available so you can truly make it your own.

I reckon smart watches would be really cool if they ever become exactly like phones so that you can use them to take photos and make phone calls/ texts without needing to also have a phone then you could have a tablet or laptop for your big screen needs and a smart watch for your general phone needs. Wouldn’t lose them at an event like a music event as easily and wouldn’t need to store them if your clothes didn’t have pockets. I guess it would be annoying if you wanted to read a blog or watch a video or something but I’d be happy if my phone was just a watch.
