Valentine's Day Tips For Single People

Valentine's Day is coming around again real soon so today I'm going to be giving you some tips on how to survive Valentine's Day if you are single. I am now in a relationship but I was single for many years through many Valentine's Days so feel I know a thing or two about being single on the day. So let's begin.

Act Like It's A Normal Day

My first top tip is to just pretend it's a normal day. Do your normal routine, ignore anything Valentine's related and get on with it. It might be difficult when everything romance related is thrown in your face but try not to let it bother you. It might be easier said than done but it's what I used to do.

Create Your Own Traditions

My next tip is to create your own traditions. Once I'd got over caring about being single on the day, I used to create my own Valentine's Day traditions. I'd buy myself a box of chocolates and then spend the evening on my Playstation which later turned into an Xbox. The first year I happened to set this tradition I was playing Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 which I then purposefully played the next 2 Valentine's Days. I loved it and it became my own little thing to do. If gaming is not your thing you could take yourself out to the cinema or have a movie night at home on your own. Buy yourself some drinks and some snacks, pick a great movie and off you go! I'm not afraid to have dates and Valentine's Day traditions on my own and you shouldn't be either.

Doll Yourself Up

You don't need to doll yourself up for a fella! Do it for yourself, as a new hairdo or a new outfit could do much to lift your spirits if you're feeling down about being single. Visit specialist salons akin to MacGregor Hairdressing for your hair and beauty needs, and get along to your favourite clothing store for something new to wear. Then turn a few heads when you're on the town with your friends, or enjoy the way you feel when you're chilling out at home.

Go On A Date

If you would like a date for Valentine's Day then you could use any one of the numerous dating apps and sites available. You could use match me happy which is a free dating site UK or even the classic popular app one's Tinder or Bumble. I found my own boyfriend on Tinder and I've now been with him for 3 and a half years. If you aren't looking for a relationship you could still use the sites and the apps just to look for a date for the actual day as I know numerous people are looking for that exact thing and you never know it could turn into more.

Get Your Friends Together

The last tip I have is to get all your single gals together and either go on a group friendship date or even host a party at home. Buy your favourite drinks, whether alcoholic or not and your favourite snacks, create an awesome playlist and get the party going. A few other ideas for friendship dates could be:

  • Go to the cinema and watch a feel-good film
  • Book a spa day or a pamper weekend
  • Head out for a group meal to your favourite restaurant
  • Catch a comedy show
  • Head to a bar and have a fun night out
  • Have a movie marathon or binge watch some tv shows at one of your homes
  • Have a bake/craft night and create some awesome things
  • Have a game night with all your favourite board games
  • Head to a cocktail masterclass to learn how to create your favourite cocktails
You don't have to feel bad just because it's Valentine's Day and you are single, there are many things you can do, so hopefully this post has given you some great ideas. Let me know in the comments below what you plan to do or not do this year on Valentine's Day. I plan on going out because I won a competition for a 3-course meal with live music.
