Many pet owners know it is not a simple task to remove pet hairs from any surface. When it comes to carpet cleaning, in particular, the problem is exacerbated. There is however a number of tricks and recommendations which can make the procedure easier!

Cleaning the Carpet from Pet Hair

Before going to war with pet hairs, carefully look at how long the pile on your favourite carpet is. The choice of domestic carpet cleaning method depends on this. For example, if the carpet fibres are long, then the procedure will take more time since the wool will be intertwined with the pile.

It is easier to remove long animal hair from any carpet, since the shorter your pet's coat is, the deeper the penetration of the hairs into the surface will be. At any case, the carpet should be cleaned regularly, at least once a week. Deep carpet cleaning is also ideally carried out at least once per season. However, it is unlikely to achieve 100% of the result if you try cleaning the carpet yourself, so it is better to book professional carpet cleaning services. Remember, the more the hairs gather on the carpet, the higher the risk of allergies and respiratory problems.

If your cat or dog's coat is short and thick, you will spend much more time on carpet cleaning than if it were a long and smooth-haired breed.

What to Use for Domestic Carpet Cleaning?

Among the variety of advertised devices and means for cleaning the carpet from wool, here is a list of the most effective ones:

Vacuum cleaner turbo brush - Such a nozzle will help to get rid of pet hair much faster than usual. However, do not forget that silk and woollen natural carpets should not be vacuumed too often, because this may lead to deformities.

Washing vacuum cleaner - A good solution, since in addition to hair and wool, small debris and dirt are also removed. However, even newer models of washing vacuum cleaners do not guarantee 100% hair removal.

Wet broom - It will help to remove fresh pet hairs, but will not save you from the ones that are already stuck into the structure of the carpet.

Brushes with moderately hard bristles. The carpet cleaning process will take much longer, but it will be worth it. Use a brush soaked in water to brush all over the carpet, periodically removing any hairs that get caught on it.

A rubber glove soaked in water will help to collect the pet hairs as well.

Regular dry vacuuming will extend the life of your carpets, as it removes the majority of dust and pet hair from carpet surfaces. In most cases, carpets need to be vacuumed once a week. The exception is carpets with a very delicate and soft long pile. More polluted places in the flat are recommended to be vacuumed more often. These can be carpets in the hallway or on the stairs, as well as kitchen mats.

Before vacuuming the carpet, you can spray a 1x1 solution of water and fabric softener on the carpet surface. This procedure will make the hairs stick together a bit, which will facilitate further vacuuming.

While cleaning, you can use several simple traps for pet hair: scotch tape will stick small hairs and dust particles on itself; additionally, a rubber glove or a balloon, after a positive electrical charge has accumulated on them, can easily do the same.

Removing Stains and Odours

A fresh urine spot should be absorbed thoroughly, and it is better to blot it several times with a paper towel. When the pile of the carpet is dry, soak it locally with a vinegar solution with water and blot again with a dry cloth. Repeating the procedure will improve the effect. Then, to eliminate the smell, sprinkle the place with soda or citric acid, let it dry, then vacuum it. You can apply a special carpet cleaner, let it dry, and vacuum it again.

It is good to arrange "personal" places for sleep, play and toilet for your pets. Proper hygiene and regular combing and walks are also important.
