AD – guest post. We are talking about a road that is endless. It starts in the city of Chicago in the northeastern United States and ends directly in the Pacific Ocean. It opened 95 years ago and from the beginning was considered the epitome of the American dream, a path that leads to freedom and the difficult acceptance that anything is possible. It’s Route 66.
Route 66
It has been sung and praised in dozens of books. And to this day, many people around the world dream of crossing it, in a van, car or chopper. Because for them and in general, it is the most beautiful road trip in the world. But if we had to choose a way to cross this excellent route, then that would be through a car. And since you probably will not own your own vehicle, then your only solution should be to rent a car. The Start of Route 66
The magic begins with the thought that you will end up in the vast sea of the largest ocean on the planet when you complete your journey. On the way, you will always find something to make you never get bored. Things you may not see gathered anywhere else. Like ghost towns, living through Route 66. Gas stations have been abandoned, and small cities like Erick in Oklahoma could not stand without the magic touch of the road.
Spraypainting In Texas
In Texas, you will pass a cemetery for Cadillac. There are not many, but they are painted in different colours and half-buried in the ground. If you remember to take sprays with you, then you can paint them. The state did not paint it, and every time you visit them, the designs are different.
No Ordinary Hotels
On the way, you can stay in one of the two remaining Wigwam hotels, either in the state of Arizona or in California. There used to be many more, but they closed. These hotels are not ordinary. Their rooms are separate bungalows, which have the shape of a tipi, ie, the tents of the Indians. They are now designated as historical monuments.
The Museums of Route 66
You can also visit the many museums related to the legendary road. You will not find anything more than cars and license plates, but you will definitely learn a little more about the history of the road and the American dream. Later you will succeed the fiberglass giants that were placed on the street 50 years ago to advertise everything. You might even find a queue for photos there, although there is not much traffic anymore.
The Deserts and its Detours of Route 66
When you cross Texas, you will enter New Mexico and then Arizona. There you will admire the “painted” desert, one of the most traditional parts of the American landscape. You can walk it if you are not afraid to get lost. Maybe you will make a detour, neither small nor big, to visit the legendary Grand Canyon, this wonder of nature, that anyone who has gone is enchanted. Another short detour will take you to Las Vegas, the city of casinos, spectacle, and lights.
The End of Route 66
And when you do all this, and much more, you will reach the beautiful ocean, in Los Angeles, to breathe with all your might, with the wind blowing every part of your body (pretty cinematic, don’t you think?). The road is over, but not the journey. So what do you say, should we head back again?
