*This is a contributed post. The rise in the popularity of podcasts is not a surprise. As we move through different modes of consuming information, being able to listen to all the information we would like is the most accessible way to do it. You can listen to podcasts while you run and exercise, on your morning commute or even while you study if it’s going to help.

If you’ve ever considered what it takes to start your own podcast, then you’re in the right place. Podcast production is not a slow process, nor is it too difficult, as long as you are computer savvy and you understand what podcasting needs to succeed, you’re going to find it easy to get your podcast off the ground. So, here are some reasons you should choose to start a podcast instead of sitting around and waiting for it to happen.

4 Reasons To Start A Podcast

  • Put it on your resume. Ensure that you stand out with your podcast, and put it on your resume. Every time you apply for a job, it’s going to catch the eye of the recruiter or employer. It’s going to mean that you do something different than the majority of people, and gone are the days when an impressive resume alone is enough. You are competing against hundreds if not thousands of candidates for every job that you apply for. With a podcast on your resume, you are different. You distinguish yourself from everybody else, and when hiring managers can hear your voice and understand your opinions, they can determine whether you are a good fit for a job.
  • It’s a fun way to socialise. You don’t have to be alone in the creation of your podcast. You can create a podcast with friends, and then instead of choosing a niche, it’s just you and your friends sitting around having a conversation and airing out your opinions. A weekly show is a great way to socialise together, and not only can you do a podcast, that you stream to Spotify and other channels, but you could also even video yourselves. This helps you to create a channel on YouTube, but be careful – it may not be just a podcast if you do it that way.
  • You can monetize your content. Podcasts are fun to do in your spare time, but have you considered monetizing one.? You can earn money from your podcast if you are getting sponsorships, and if you utilise platforms such as TikTok or Instagram, those sponsorships may come in thick and fast. There are plenty of people out there who have managed to make a living from their podcasts, and it’s a good way to earn a little bit without having to do too much work. You could start it off as a side hustle and then grow it into a full business where you earn money.
  • It’s an interesting idea for a side hustle. If you’re stuck with your current job and don’t have many other ways to make some money, a podcast could be a great side hustle for you. It’s a creative endeavour and you can turn it into a job that comes with a range of added pressures, but those pressures don’t feel so bad when you know you’re doing something fun.
