*This is a contributed post. Your car is probably one of your most valuable possessions. It might even be the most expensive thing that you own. So, naturally, you want to protect it. The risk of having it stolen or damaged isn’t something you really want to think about, but it’s important to take precautions. Having good insurance is obviously helpful, but it’s also great if you can do all that you can to prevent your car from being stolen in the first place. Fortunately, there are plenty of things you can do if you want to make your car more secure and discourage thieves.

Don’t Overlook the Little Things
Before you start considering fancy technology or expensive security measures, it’s a good idea to consider the small things you can do to protect your car. For example, when you park, turning your wheels towards the curb can make it more difficult for potential thieves to get away with your car. Making sure you don’t leave valuables visible inside your car will make it a less attractive prospect for people to break into it. Using a steering wheel lock will help to prevent anyone from stealing it. Some of these tips might seem obvious but they’re worth paying attention to.
Get Security Window Etching
Security window etching helps to discourage potential thieves from targeting your car. Cars that have window etching are much less likely to be stolen and, if they are, they are more likely to be recovered. Etching your windows means getting the International Security Register logo on your windows with a code that’s unique to your car. This code is kept in a secure database that’s used by police forces to help track and trace vehicles. It doesn’t cost very much to get security window etching, so it’s well worth taking this step.

Get a Unique Number Plate
Another interesting security step you could take is getting unique number plates. When your number plate is unique, it’s easier to trace, which makes it less attractive to anyone who might be tempted to steal it. When you get Fourdot number plates, you can choose a unique shape and design that can’t be fitted to another vehicle. If your car is stolen, your plates serve as a stand-out feature that makes it easier to find. You could also get plates with a unique registration so that it can be easily spotted if necessary.
Make Use of Cameras
Cameras are often one of the best technology options for securing your car. When you have cameras looking out for your car, it’s like being able to keep an eye on it 24/7. With smart cameras, you can easily check up on them using your phone or another device. Cameras can be used both inside your car and outside of it. Setting up CCTV for your home and pointing a camera at your car can help you to watch over it whenever you need to.
Make your car more secure with some smart steps to protect it whenever it’s parked.
