This is a contributed post. Running out of the thing you use most when you really need it is frustrating, to say the least, and it often comes at a really inconvenient time as well. But surely there’s nothing to be done about it? Otherwise, you’d just be spending a fortune buying things when you don’t need them, just in case – and that’s not a great option either. Well, keep reading for some handy tricks for staying stocked up without overspending, because it could save you a lot of hassle and a lot of money.

Plan First, Spend Second
It might sound obvious, but making a list before you go shopping is truly one of the easiest ways to avoid overspending, as long as you stick to it, of course! When you don’t have a list (which could be created on a specialist app, in the notes on your phone, as an email to yourself, or even on a good old scrap of paper if you prefer), you’re more likely to grab things just in case you need them, even if you’re not sure, and you’ll probably walk out of the shop with loads of items that you didn’t need (and possibly without the ones you actually went in for).
No matter what you’re buying, having a rough idea of what you actually need keeps things nice and focused, and it also keeps your spending under control. That goes for online shopping as well – it’s far too easy to add things to your cart without really thinking it through, but if you pause (or plan in advance), you’ll make some better choices.

Look At How Often You Use Something
Before you stock up on anything, ask yourself how quickly you actually get through it. Some things are worth buying in bulk, but others are just going to sit in the back of a cupboard for ages, and by the time you need them, they’ll be out of date, or you forget they’re there, and you buy more anyway. So think about what you really use on a weekly basis, and those are the things that make sense to buy ahead of time, especially if there’s a good deal on.
And yes, buying in bulk can save you money, but only if you’re genuinely going to use whatever it is you’re buying. That’s why it helps to keep an eye out for deals in the categories that matter most to you, and that’s how you’ll save money. For example, if you like to vape and you’ve found a flavour or brand that works for you, it makes sense to shop bulk buy vapes rather than picking them up one by one. That way, you’re not constantly making small repeat purchases, and you’ll usually get a better price overall, so it ticks a lot of boxes.

Keep An Eye On Dates
One of the most common reasons people waste money on stocked up goods is forgetting about expiry dates. Whether it’s food, beauty products, or anything else that has a shelf life, it’s always wise to do a quick check before you buy loads of it.
The reality is that buying too much of something you’re not going to be able to use in time is just a waste of money and the product itself, so even if it seems like a great deal at the time, it might not be in the end.
