AD. I don’t often talk about games on my blog or social media channels but they are actually a big part of my life. From video games to card games to mobile games, I play all types of them. I play at least one type of game every day, so today I thought I would talk you through my top 7 favourite types of games to play so you can learn more about me.
Open Worlds Set in Space
First up, we have open-world games or more specifically open-world games set in space. I love any sort of space media and I consume a lot of it. When it comes to books, movies and tv shows, it’s my favourite genre and games are no exception.
Open-world games are defined as ‘virtual worlds where the player can explore and approach objects freely as opposed to more structured gameplay’. Open-world games give me a sense of freedom and let me choose what I want to do each time I play. I could do the main quest or I could discover a new town with new NPC’s and side quests or even just wander around and explore the landscape, the choice is mine.
Destiny, Mass Effect and Borderlands 3 are 3 of my favourite open-world space games. Other open-worlds I’ve also enjoyed are Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption, the Fallout games and the Grand Theft Auto games. I tend to play open-world games on the Xbox.
Solitaire
Next up, we have a card game in the form of solitaire. One of the most simple card games to play and it’s an absolute classic. It’s one of the only card games I can think of which can be played single-player. I usually play it on my PC or on an app on my phone and I very rarely play it with physical cards. It’s one of my go-to’s when I need a few minutes to relax or just fancy playing a card game.

Sudoku
Another classic game now but this time its Sudoku. It took me a good few years after it was popular to start playing it but now I absolutely love it. It was actually my cousin who taught me to play it when I went to visit her some years ago when I was a teenager. I really didn’t get how it worked at first but after a short time, I managed to understand. Even now after all these years, I keep discovering new strategies on how to play it.
This is the type of game I play most often when I go on holiday, generally on the journey there or back or when I’m lounging around the pool. I have these little books packed full of Sudoku puzzles in them and I like to play a few at a time, starting with easy and making my way through to the harder puzzles. I also have an app on my phone which I play quite often that gives me fresh levelled puzzles each day.
Match 3 (with a design twist)
When it comes to Match 3 games, there are so many versions of it around. Think Candy Crush (which I did use to play) or for a more classic Match 3 – Bejeweled. I have played many a Match 3 in the past but nowadays I tend to play versions that have a design twist. What I mean by a design twist, is that after each level you are awarded some sort of currency that can be used to purchase a design element for e.g. design and furnish an interior or build an outfit for a makeover. The current Match 3 games that I play are Project Makeover and Home Design.
Multiplayer First Person Shooters
Another of my absolute favourite type of video games is first-person shooters, but more specifically the multiplayer versions. Think Call of Duty and Battlefield. I think I have played just about every Call of Duty game there has ever been and the multiplayer aspect is definitely my favourite part. They are a lot of fun and I love seeing what new maps are brought out each time to play on and devising strategies to win.
MMOs
MMO stands for Massively Multiplayer Online and is classed as an online game that is played by many people at the same time, usually in the thousands. There are many of these types of games about and available to play. My favourite MMO’s are definitely either role-playing games or strategy games. I like building up characters and locations from nothing and playing all the different types of experiences that are in the games. 2 MMO’s that I currently play are both on Esprit and they are Game of Thrones and Blade of Kings. I play both of these on the PC but I sometimes also play MMO’s on apps on my phone.
Life-Simulations
Last but certainly not least we have life simulation games. The most popular one is definitely the Sims series (which I used to play!) Life simulation games basically revolve around controlling a character around their everyday life. It’s all about growing and maintaining a virtual life. 2 life simulation games I play are Animal Crossing and Family Island. I play Animal Crossing on a Switch and have played previous versions on the Nintendo Wii and The DS series of consoles. I play Family Island on an app on my phone.
